KOHAT (Kashmir English): Four people were killed and three others, including a passerby, were injured in a firing incident reportedly triggered by a dispute between two groups over an alleged illegal gold mine in Kohat district.
The incident took place in Darbu Kutch within the limits of Gambit Police Station, where the two groups allegedly exchanged fire following a dispute over gold mining activities in the area.
According to local sources, the gunfire caused panic and a stampede among people present at the scene. Three people, including a passerby, sustained bullet injuries during the exchange.
Police reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident and cordoned off the area. The bodies of the deceased and the injured were shifted to a medical facility, where the injured are receiving treatment.
Tensions remained high in the area following the incident. Police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the shooting and determine the exact motive behind the clash.
Sources said the two groups had reportedly been at odds over gold mining at the location, with the dispute believed to have led to the deadly confrontation. However, the identities of the deceased and injured and the precise circumstances surrounding the firing will be confirmed after the police investigation.
Police have collected evidence from the scene and launched efforts to arrest the suspects. Security has also been increased in the area to prevent further violence.
