MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Militants linked to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) attacked a police post on Chitra Road in Bagh district with a petrol bomb early Saturday morning, resulting in the martyrdom of an Elite Force personnel, according to a police statement.
According to the press release issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir police, the attack took place at around 6:35 am on September 5, 2026, when the attackers targeted the police post and attempted to enter the premises. During the assault, Sepoy Rahim Gul, reportedly a resident of the Girls College area, was martyred.

Police said personnel retaliated against the attackers, killing one suspected militant. A Kalashnikov, three magazines with ammunition, and other weapon/explosive-related items were reportedly recovered from his possession.
The police said efforts to identify other suspected attackers are underway, while a search operation continues in the area following the incident.
According to the police spokesperson, the state will take action in accordance with the law against elements challenging the state’s writ and those involved in terrorist attacks on law-enforcement personnel.
The statement reaffirmed the authorities’ resolve to maintain law and order, protect citizens’ lives and property, and enforce the state’s writ.
