34 Afghans arrested in Azad Kashmir amid high alert, medical emergency

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Security has been put on high alert in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in view of the situation in the country, with 34 illegally residing Afghan nationals arrested.

According to sources, the police arrested the illegally residing Afghan nationals in the state and registered FIRs.

The illegally residing Afghan nationals were later remanded in judicial custody. Concerned authorities were strictly directed to remain on call to deal with any untoward situation even after duty hours.

On the other hand, security was also put on high alert in Mirpur Division, while DIG Police suddenly reached Bhimber and inspected the security.

Entry points and check posts of Bhimber were inspected and instructions were issued to ensure foolproof security arrangements.

The DIG said that the police should remain alert 24 hours a day and not allow anyone to enter without checking. Meanwhile, strict instructions were issued to implement emergency arrangements in the Health Department of Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, in light of the orders of Syed Bazil Ali Naqvi, Minister of Public Health Azad Kashmir, all District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents, besides other health services departments across Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Poonch, Bagh, Sudhanoti, Haveli, Jhelum Valley and Neelum have been issued a high alert, with immediate and strict compliance orders.

According to the issued directives, all officers and personnel are bound to remain present at their respective duty stations, while all hospitals have been instructed to ensure 24-hour shift-wise attendance of staff.

Specifically, the operating theater (OT) staff has been ordered to remain present within the hospital premises to promptly deal with any emergency situation.

To effectively deal with any potential emergency, all district and tehsil level hospitals have been instructed to keep at least 30% of beds allocated and vacant at all times, so that immediate medical facilities can be provided in case of a sudden influx of patients.

Emphasis has also been placed on ensuring the availability of medicines and medical supplies. According to the directives, a sufficient and continuous stock of emergency medicines, life-saving drugs, IV fluids, dressing material, IV antibiotic injections, pain relievers, and other basic and essential medicines must be maintained at all costs.

It has been clarified that any kind of deficiency, negligence, or carelessness will not be tolerated at all. To make the communication and reporting system more effective, all concerned officers have been instructed to remain in continuous and close contact with the Directorate of Public Health.

Strict restrictions have also been imposed on all types of movement. No officer or personnel will be able to leave their duty station without prior permission from the competent authority.

The orders clearly state that strict compliance with these directives is mandatory, and in case of any violation, action will be taken under the relevant rules and regulations.

According to the Health Department, these orders are being monitored by the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, the Chief Secretary of Azad Kashmir, the Minister of Public Health of Azad Kashmir, and the Secretary of Public Health of Azad Kashmir themselves, and their purpose is to ensure the uninterrupted provision of medical facilities to the public in the current circumstances and to strengthen preparedness for any emergency situation.
