MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A viral social media claim alleging that the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government had decided to increase electricity prices by Rs8 per unit and abolish the flour subsidy has been declared false by the authorities.
The viral post claimed that the federal government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had approved an Rs8 per unit hike in electricity tariffs and decided to end the wheat flour subsidy in AJK, triggering concern among the public.
However, official sources clarified that no such decision has been taken regarding an increase in electricity tariffs or the withdrawal of the flour subsidy. Authorities urged the public not to believe or share unverified information circulating on social media.
It is pertinent to mention that the AJK government introduced subsidised electricity tariffs and wheat flour prices in 2024 following a federal relief package, and any future changes to these subsidies would be announced through official notifications.
Citizens have been advised to rely only on official government statements and credible news sources for information related to public policies and subsidy decisions.
