BEIJING (Kashmir English): Pakistan has emerged as a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) following the signing of the organisation’s founding convention by the country’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, in Shanghai.

As per the statement of Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the signing of the agreement symbolised the formation of WAICO, an international forum committed to cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI).

“Pakistan, being a founding member of WAICO, reaffirms its commitment towards global cooperation on the matter,” the Foreign Office said in its statement.

The Foreign Office, in its statement, further said Pakistan would work alongside other member states to reduce the global “AI divide” and foster equitable access to artificial intelligence.

The statement by the Foreign Office added that Pakistan considers international cooperation, joint R&D, and equal access to emerging technologies as crucial for sustainable development.

According to the Foreign Office, the WAICO platform would enable members to strengthen partnerships, share knowledge and facilitate responsible and effective application of AI technologies.

“The government intends to be proactive within the organisation where countries are working towards increased cooperation in the area of AI,” the government said.
