NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): Indian opener and former captain Rohit Sharma is likely to be dropped from the national ODI squad after the ongoing series against England.

According to Indian media reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to prepare a new team comprising young players, keeping in mind the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.

According to reports, last week, the senior selection committee and head coach Gautam Gambhir met Rohit Sharma and informed him about the team’s plans.

Reports say that Rohit Sharma wanted to continue his career in ODI cricket, however, the selectors have adopted a strategy of giving more opportunities to young players to prepare for the upcoming World Cup.

Under this decision, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to get regular opportunities in ODI cricket, while the Indian team is being formed keeping in mind the needs of the future.

According to Indian media, the selectors have made it clear to Rohit Sharma that he will not be part of the team’s plans after the series against England.

If this decision remains in place, the ODI match against England at Lord’s on July 19 could prove to be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s international ODI career.
