MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday rejected the claims circulating on social media that changes have been made to constituencies for the general election 2026.

Several reports suggested that new constituencies have been established in Leepa Valley, Chakar, Hattian Bala, and Khuiratta, while changes have also been made in the constituencies in Rawalakot, Hajira, Tararkhal, and Muzaffarabad.

In a press release, the electoral body rejected the claims, saying that it has kept the delimitations used in the 2021 elections for the upcoming election of the AJK Legislative Assembly.

In a statement, the election commission spokesperson said the department issued the interim delimitation for the upcoming election and invited suggestions and objections from the public.

It added several objections and suggestions were received from Muzaffarabad Division, Mirpur Division, and Poonch Division related to some constituencies.

“Some of these applications were rejected due to non-compliance, and some were rejected after receiving a report from the Commissioners of the concerned Divisions,” the commission spokesperson said.

Earlier today, the commission issued a notification of a total of 45 constituencies for the 2026 polls, including 12 for refugees residing in Pakistan and 33 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition, six seats have been reserved for refugees from Jammu and Mangla Dam affectees residing across Pakistan, and six legislative assembly seats have been established for the Kashmir Valley refugees residing across Pakistan.
