PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): A major corruption scandal has emerged in Peshawar because a project, which the World Bank supported to enhance basic facilities and educational standards, has come under deep investigation.

The Planning and Development Department has finished its project investigation, according to official sources who report that a complete investigation report has been delivered.

The investigation determined that the Elementary and Secondary Education Department project suffered a loss of Rs106 million, which had been embezzled.

The report shows that various financial irregularities were committed while funds designated for educational infrastructure and service development were mismanaged.

The investigation has recommended that disciplinary measures should be taken against three officers, including the Project Director, because they allegedly participated in the embezzlement scheme.

The authorities must proceed with disciplinary and legal actions against all individuals who share responsibility for the development project scandal because it raises major issues regarding transparency and accountability in projects that receive international funding.
