Convoys start reaching Muzaffarabad as JAAC to stage grand rally today

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Preparations are in full swing as the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) will organise a grand rally at Upper Lal Chowk in the capital city of Muzaffarabad.

The rally will be staged to pay tribute to the martyrs of the protest, held a year ago, demanding cheap electricity and flour.

As per details, traders, civil society, lawyers, and other people from ten districts of Azad Kashmir will participate today. The shutters will be down in all the markets of the capital by 3 pm in view of the gathering.

Meanwhile, convoys from across the state will also start entering the limits of Muzaffarabad after 12 pm today. To welcome the attendees, the business community of Muzaffarabad has formed committees.

Free food and accommodation have also been arranged for guests coming from across the AJK. In this regard, the  Muzaffarabad Hotel Association has announced free food and accommodation.

Similarly, late at night, several volunteers and workers of the Awami Action Committee cleaned Upper Lal Chowk and completed arrangements for the May 24 gathering.

On the other hand, Awami Action Committee convoys from Rawalakot are expected to leave for Muzaffarabad at around 2 pm today.

Senior leader JAAC, Omar Nazir, said that the convoys from Kotli, Mirpur, and other places will reach Rawalakot and join the larger convoy.

Those coming from Mirpur division and other places will be welcomed in Rawalakot, he said.
