ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday performed the groundbreaking of the Shaheen Chowk underpass in Islamabad to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Addressing the ceremony in Islamabad, the PM said that the completion of development projects in the federal capital will provide convenience to citizens.

He commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Capital Development Authority, and contractors for executing projects while upholding quality and excellence.

“With the fast-paced completion of these projects, we are not only improving public convenience but also showcasing Islamabad and Pakistan as a well-planned, modern, and vibrant city,” the prime minister remarked.

Appreciating the efforts of the interior minister and his team for the swift progress of development projects, Shehbaz said steps were being taken to beautify the city.

He said that the timely completion of these projects would help project a positive image of Islamabad and Pakistan during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit to be held in the federal capital.

Earlier, the prime minister was briefed on the project details before formally laying the foundation stone.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the new underpass would help reduce traffic pressure on Margalla Road.

He said that work on Eleventh Avenue was also being launched soon, with more major projects to follow, including the construction of the Kashmir Chowk underpass.

Naqvi said the city was being beautified and upgraded to international standards in view of the upcoming SCO conference, promising that Islamabad would be transformed into one of the most modern and beautiful cities within a year.

The Interior Minister further said the construction of the T-Chowk flyover is expected to be completed by December this year, and he will request the Prime Minister to inaugurate it.
