MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Municipal Corporation Muzaffarabad on Tuesday launched a weekly “Clean City, Green City, My Dream City Muzaffarabad” cleanliness campaign.

The campaign was started from Upper Adda Chowk of Muzaffarabad and was attended by the Municipal Corporation, district administration, NGOs, lawyers, councilors, civil society, and social media activists.

On the occasion of the inauguration, an awareness walk was also organized regarding the “Clean City, Green City, My Dream City Muzaffarabad”, in which Commissioner Muzaffarabad Division Masood-ur-Rehman, Mayor Muzaffarabad Municipality Syed Sikandar Gilani, Deputy Commissioner Mudassar Farooq, Deputy Mayor Khalid Awan, President Central Bar Association Anis-ul-Hassan Gilani, local government representatives, and others participated.

Talking to the media on the occasion, Commissioner Muzaffarabad Division Masood-ur-Rehman said that Muzaffarabad is the capital and face of Azad Kashmir. Muzaffarabad also attracts a number of tourists due to its beauty.

Keeping the capital clean is the responsibility of all of us, he said, appealing to the citizens to actively participate in the cleanliness campaign and restore the beauty of Muzaffarabad, which has been tarnished due to garbage and rubbish.

Commissioner Muzaffarabad said that work is underway on various development projects to make Muzaffarabad beautiful and worthy of the capital, while new development projects are also being brought.

Mayor Municipality Syed Sikandar Gilani said that the main objective of the Clean and Green Muzaffarabad awareness campaign is to make the capital clean and beautiful.

There is a limited number of sanitary workers in the city, he said, adding that it is impossible to clean a city with a population of three lakhs unless every citizen fulfills his individual and collective responsibility.

“Every citizen should plant a sapling in the name of one of his dear parents and take care of it as he takes care of a loved one,” Gilani maintained.

The participants reiterated their commitment to making the Clean and Green Muzaffarabad campaign a success.

Assistant Commissioner Ghulam Mohiuddin Gilani, Chief Officer Sahibzada Zulfiqar Alam, Municipal Magistrate Sardar Imran, Project Director Syed Shakeel Gilani, Chief Officer Syed Qamar Abbas, Focal Person Councilor Umair Kiani, and others were also present on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of the campaign.
