LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Punjab government has declared February 6 a basant holiday in Lahore after a recommendation from the district administration.
This announcement was made after the district administration issued the relevant recommendations.The holiday has been declared with the aim of letting citizens participate in Basant celebrations.
The February 6 holiday (Friday), combined with the Kashmir Day holiday on February 5 (Thursday), results in a four-day weekend, as Saturday and Sunday are already weekly off days.
According to officials, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday holidays had previously been arranged, and the government has now added Friday as an additional holiday.
The goal of this measure is to reduce traffic congestion during the celebrations and offer a safe atmosphere for the people.
The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore has issued a directive that children below 18 years of age are permitted to celebrate Basant in the presence of families in order to provide safety and order while observing this traditional celebration.
He added that the government, as well as other relevant departments, would make sure that people are able to celebrate the festival in a peaceful environment by ensuring their security.
