DHAKA (Kashmir English): Bangladesh has turned down the visa application of an Indian official whose presence at the ICC venues for the future T20 World Cup was planned.
Just Andrew Ephraim, the ICC’s Head of Anti-Corruption and Security, has made it to the two-day tour with the purpose of reviewing security measures and talking to the authorities.
According to the sources, the other Indian official who had been part of the original group was not allowed to enter the country. This decision was taken when Bangladeshi cricket raised the issue of the security of their team playing in India, and the incident gave rise to security concerns.
It is said that these concerns are being discussed within the ICC in terms of possible alterations to match venues and the introduction of stricter safety measures for the players and officials.
The cricket governing bodies of the two nations are caught in a tight situation where the interplay of sport, diplomacy, and security is involved. While the ICC is trying to make sure that everything will go smoothly during the tournament, Bangladesh is adamant that the safety of its players is the most important thing.
Experts point out that these incidents are indicative of the continued tensions in cricket administration within the region, where political and safety issues can easily affect the conduct of international sports events.
Ephraim’s trip is anticipated to revolve around analyzing the local security measures and making sure that the ICC’s requirements for security are fully complied with. His presence might play a role in mitigating the worries, but the visa rejection for the other official brings up the matter of the cricket boards’ current sensitivity in their relationship.
This event has occurred at a very crucial point, as it has become clear that the issue of player safety and political factors are still intertwined in the planning of the tournament, with the T20 World Cup not so far off.
