SYLHET (Kashmir English): Former captain of the national cricket team, Babar Azam, has reached another milestone by scoring more than 9,000 international runs in the current decade, becoming the first batsman in the world to achieve this feat.

He achieved this milestone in the first innings of the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Babar Azam played a responsible innings of 68 off 84 balls, including 10 fours. Babar has completed 9060 international runs since the beginning of the 2020s and has become the only batsman in the world to cross the 9,000-run mark in this decade.

He achieved this feat in his 212th international innings, during which he averaged 42.53 while scoring 17 centuries and 67 half-centuries.

England’s Joe Root is second with 8,305 runs, while Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan is third with 7,779 runs. Sri Lanka’s Kaushal Mendis and Patham Nissanka are fourth and fifth, respectively, while India’s Virat Kohli is sixth.

Babar Azam equals another Virat Kohli’s T20 record

Babar Azam, captain of Peshawar Zalmi, has equalled a major world record held by Indian star Virat Kohli by becoming part of the most century partnerships in T20 cricket.

With this milestone, Babar has now been involved in 47 century stands in the shortest format, matching Kohli’s long-standing record

Chris Gayle and David Warner are third and fourth in the list with 46 and 45 such partnerships, respectively.

Peshawar Zalmi set a record in the 29th match of PSL played at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Captain Babar Azam’s unbeaten century helped Zalmi post a mammoth 255 against Quetta Gladiators, the highest score in the history of this stadium.
