AMSTELVEEN (Kashmir English): Pakistan crashed out of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup after a 5-3 defeat to arch-rivals India in their final group-stage match at Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands, on Wednesday.
Green Shirts lost 1-4 to England and drew 3-3 against Wales, and with today’s loss in their Group D match, the team has failed to qualify for the next stage of the ongoing tournament.
India started the match with total control, scoring twice in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead. In the second quarter, India scored a third goal to increase the lead to 3-0.
However, Pakistan made a brilliant comeback, scoring 2-3 with two goals from Hanan Shahid and Sufyan Khan. At the end of the second quarter, India was leading 2-4.
In the third quarter, India scored once again to make it 5-2. Pakistan’s Hannan Shahid managed to score their third goal in the fourth quarter, but the match ended in a 5-3 defeat.
Pakistan, which played in the Hockey World Cup after eight years, failed to win a single match in the event.
