MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir police has denied the reports circulating on social media regarding the unlawful transfer of SHO Civil Secretariat Police Station Muzaffarabad, Raja Sohail Khan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the AJK police spokesperson said that an inquiry into the poor command and control of Inspector Raja Sohail was initiated following the complaint regarding an ASI at his police station demanding a bribe to release an accused.
The police department said that linking this inquiry to a sexual harassment case is baseless. “The accused arrested in the sexual harassment case has no connection with this matter.”
Earlier, the news circulated on social media that SHO Sohail was framed into the case for arresting the Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister’s House, Arif Butt, for alleged involvement in immoral activities. The report added that another employee of the AJK Information Department, who was connected to the same case, was also arrested.
However, the police spokesperson denied the allegations, stating that the police took notice of the complaint of demanding a bribe from an accused arrested in the Police Civil Secretariat, Muzaffarabad, and undue torture on the accused in custody.
“The Inspector General of Police has sought a factual report from the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Region Muzaffarabad, within three days,” it added.
Talking about the case, the spokesperson said that on June 18, the Civil Secretariat Police Station arrested two persons, Faisal Javed and Tariq Khan, in a vehicle, while they were intoxicated, and a bottle of alcohol was also recovered.
“A case was registered, and the investigation was assigned to ASI Tanzeel Siddique,” it added.
The statement further added that on June 23, Muhammad Amir Chughtai complained to the SSP Muzaffarabad that the investigating officer, ASI Tanzeel, demanded a bribe for helping in the bail of the accused Faisal Javed, on which the SSP directed an investigation against ASI and suspended him from the police service.
Taking notice of the complaint, the IGP Azad Kashmir has sought a factual report from the DIG Muzaffarabad within three days after conducting an inquiry into the poor control of Inspector Raja Sohail Khan, SHO Police Civil Secretariat.
