MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Students at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) Muzaffarabad have expressed concern over the impact of protests and sit-ins organised by the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) on their studies.

In a video message, several UAJK students said that disruptions to educational activities due to JAAC’s strikes have affected their education adversely.

They said that they lost valuable academic time due to the disruption of educational activities, while their academic progress was also affected.

The students said that education is already facing various challenges and in such a situation, continuous strikes and sit-ins have a negative impact on their educational future.

They urged those organising protests to adopt solutions to public problems that do not harm educational institutions and students.

In a separate video message, Shahzeb Ishtiaq, a seventh-semester student in the university’s Computer Science Department, announced disassociation with the JAAC, adding that he had never supported the proscribed committee in its activities.

He said the JAAC’s protests and sit-ins had adversely affected students’ academic activities.

“Disagreed with JAAC over anti-Pakistan stance”

Raja Zain, a student of Management Sciences at UAJK, said he had initially been associated with the JAAC movement and was injured during a protest last year.

However, he said he later disagreed with them because of the movement’s anti-Pakistan and anti-army stance.

He further added that the internet shutdown has severely affected students, warning that the disruption could affect examination preparations and results.

Zain appealed to the JAAC to avoid hate speech and anti-Pakistan slogans, urging that all issues should be resolved through talks to avoid further loss of life.
