MIRPUR (APP): The International Special Persons Day was observed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Wednesday, with various events and seminars held to raise awareness about the rights and rehabilitation of physically handicapped persons.
The events were attended by representatives of rehabilitation centers, social workers, and government officials, who emphasized the need for collective efforts to provide support and services to disabled persons.
In Mirpur, a grand walk was organized by the Kashmiri NGO Kashmir Institute of Special Education (KISE), with participants marching through city streets holding placards and banners bearing national slogans.
Deputy Commissioner Sajid Aslam Chaudhry, SSP Khurram Iqbal, and other officials led the walk, which aimed to highlight the importance of inclusivity and accessibility for people with disabilities.
Speakers at the event stressed the need for the government to reserve at least 2% of the employment quota for jobless disabled persons in Azad Jammu Kashmir and provide them with the required facilities to lead a dignified life.
The KISE Director, Dr. Amjad Ansari, called for launching awareness campaigns to encourage the rehabilitation of special needs and make them useful citizens of the country.
The events concluded with a renewed pledge to support and empower physically handicapped persons, and to work towards creating a more inclusive and accessible society for all.
