MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has issued a formal notification removing the electricity tariff of 05 kilowatts imposed on all schools and colleges, and has included them in the general services category.
According to the notification issued by the Department of Energy and Water Resources, Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has approved the removal of the condition of 05 kilowatts (KW) for schools and colleges, while new electricity tariffs have also been announced for schools, colleges, and commercial consumers.
Under this decision, electricity tariffs have been fixed for schools and colleges, according to which the electricity tariff from one unit to one thousand units will be Rs. 15 per unit, while the electricity tariff has been fixed at Rs. 25 per unit for consumption above one thousand and one units.
New electricity tariffs have also been implemented for up to 0.5 kilowatts. For commercial consumers, the electricity tariff from one unit to 1500 units has been fixed at Rs 25 per unit, while the electricity tariff for consumption above 1501 units will be Rs 35 per unit.
The notification further states that private schools and colleges will be required to provide a 10 percent discount in fees to their students. Along with this, the Department of Energy and Water Resources has clarified that the previous notification dated December 08, 2024, issued in this regard has been cancelled with immediate effect.
Copies of this notification issued by the Department of Energy and Water Resources have been sent to the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, all ministers, Chief Secretary, concerned federal ministries, Board of Revenue, all secretaries, Chief Engineer Electricity, Director Generals, and other concerned authorities. The notification was issued by the Section Officer on 12 December 2025.
