MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Tuesday announced two-month-long summer vacations for public and private schools across the state.

According to a notification issued by the Secretariat Elementary and Secondary Education, the summer vacations will be from June 8, 2026, to August 9, 2026, in the summer zone of the state.

The notification stated that all government and private educational institutions in the summer districts will remain closed during the said period, while academic activities will resume from August 10, 2026.

Meanwhile, the notification added that the schools in the winter zone will remain open as usual.

The Education Department has issued instructions to all concerned institutions to ensure implementation of the notification.

Sindh Summer Vacations

The Sindh Education Department on Monday announced that summer vacation for schools in the province will be observed from June 1 to July 31.

A statement issued by the government said the decision would apply to all public and private schools across the province.

The development came hours after Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the summer vacation schedule for the province.

Punjab summer vacations

A Punjab government statement released earlier in the day said that the vacation would begin on May 22 and continue until August 23, meaning the students would get more than three months off.

The decision comes as a relief to students and teachers alike as the country reels from a hot spell with temperatures expected to remain high in the coming weeks.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had warned that heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding, and windstorms could affect several regions in the coming weeks.

The weather department had also said that strong winds, dust storms, and hailstorms could potentially affect seasonal crops, vegetables, and orchards.
