MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has decided to take action against non-custom paid vehicles being used by influential individuals in the region.
Interior Secretariate has written a letter to the IG Police for action against these vehicles, but the question arises if this operation would be successful.
According to details, Azad Kashmir is flooded with non-customs paid vehicles, and highly influential people use non-customs paid and stolen vehicles. Whenever action is taken, they become an obstacle.
According to a Kashmir Digital report, most of the large vehicles plying on the roads of the capital Muzaffarabad are non-customs paid or stolen, but are being used by influential individuals.
Past crackdowns against non-custom paid vehicles
Whenever the police consider taking action against these vehicles, they are forced to stop due to pressure. Only time will tell how much the Interior Secretariat’s notification will be implemented.
Earlier, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muzaffarabad had issued a written order instructing all SHOs, and concerned officers across the district to take immediate and effective action against non-customs paid vehicles.
The written order stated that in light of the DIG Police Muzaffarabad Range order and on the instructions of the Chief Secretary Azad Kashmir, it has been decided that non-customs paid vehicles present in the district will be confiscated.
SSP Muzaffarabad, in his orders, urged police officers not to bow to any pressure during the operation and to ensure full enforcement of the law.
Departmental action would also be taken against officers found guilty of violation or negligence, the order warned.
It has been observed that in the past, such campaigns hardly meet success and always proved to be a mere announcement. Citizens have demanded that such campaigns should be result-oriented.
