MIRPUR (APP): The State Electricity Department (South) has earned widespread praise for maintaining an uninterrupted power supply across the Mirpur division, even as consumers have dramatically increased their electricity usage following recent tariff relief.
Officials attribute the success to the steadfast leadership of Secretary for Power Development Muhammad Tayyeb Chaudhry, Chief Engineer (South) Engr. Muhammad Nazir Mughal, Executive Engineer Mirpur Sardar Soukat Abbasi, and a team of dedicated engineers and line staff who work round-the-clock to keep the grid stable despite aging infrastructure.
A recent investigative report by APP highlighted the department’s exemplary performance, noting that linemen are constantly on alert to address any outage. This was evident in the densely populated D/4 housing sector, where residents witnessed the swift installation of a high-power transformer after repeated blowouts.
The Quick Response Special Team, led by newly promoted SDO Khawaja Ansar Mahmood, responded within hours, restoring power to sectors 2/A, Defence Road, Byco Station, 2/B, 2/C and surrounding blocks.
Senior linemen Farayaad Ali and Aurangzeb were singled out for their diligence, braving cold weather to repair the main transmission line that had failed under heavy load. Consumers expressed gratitude to Executive Engineer Shoukat Abbasi and SDO Khawaja Ansar Mahmood for permanently resolving the outage, underscoring the department’s commitment to reliable service.
The department’s proactive measures come as a response to the surge in electricity consumption across Azad Jammu Kashmir, with the Mirpur division emerging as a model of efficient energy management. Officials vowed to continue upgrading infrastructure and maintaining the high standards that have become a hallmark of the AJK electricity sector.
