LAHORE: The Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab) has completed the construction of the country’s one of the most advanced roads, Route 47, at Kalma Chowk in Lahore.
The road, built on international standards, includes a nearly one-kilometre flyover and is equipped with separate pedestrian and bicycle lanes.
Imran Amin, CEO of CBD Punjab, said that sidewalks along the road are being fitted with solar panels, which will provide shade for pedestrians and generate up to one megawatt of electricity.
The project, which cost an estimated Rs9 billion, spans a 4.5-kilometre thoroughfare that runs through Kalma Chowk and links several major arteries of the city, including Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Walton Road, and the Lahore Ring Road.
“It serves as the central artery of the country’s first high-rise commercial district. The road is designed to prevent waterlogging and includes separate tracks for pedestrians and cyclists,” Amin said.
With this completion, all CBD development is now concluded. The authority is also nearing the finish of two large parking plazas to manage the area’s traffic.
Additionally, a modern sewerage system has been installed, along with a system for underground rainwater harvesting, which will feed into a soon-to-be-completed artificial lake.
