MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority discarded 520 kg of substandard chicken meat, 50 kg of packed curd, and 40 kg of khoya at the Mangla entry point.
Assistant Food Safety Officer Chaudhry Asif Riaz, along with supporting staff, inspected various vehicles entering Azad Kashmir from Punjab.
According to the Food Authority statement, the officials imposed a hefty fine of Rs 98,000 on violators for not having a Food Authority license.
In addition, slaughtered chicken meat and substandard curd and bakery items packed in wrappers were seized and destroyed on the spot.
In addition, two vehicles loaded with unregistered and unhealthy snacks [Pappads] were taken into custody.
Earlier on Saturday, the AJK Food Authority issued a list of banned snacks, beverages, oils, and ghee brands.
This development comes after the food authority lab tested several packaged items in the market and sealed them due to their poor quality.
According to the notification issued by the National Institute of Health (NIH), packaged items sold at the local market places including children snacks contain unhealthy elements which are not suitable for human health.
