MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The protestors have ended their sit-in in Kannur in the Muzaffarabad district and opened the Neelum Road for traffic following the successful negotiations with government officials.

Assistant Commissioner Patika led the Azad Kashmir government’s negotiation panel.

The protest were sparked by long-standing demands from the local community, which were discussed and agreed upon during the negotiations.

The protesters presented their charter of demands, which included the immediate reconstruction of a primary school that collapsed in an earthquake, affecting 100 students who were studying under the open sky.

The other demands included the repair of Neelum Road, the recruitment of two teachers, and the provision of furniture for a local school in the area.

Additionally, the protesters sought to upgrade the High School Kannur to a Higher Secondary School and recruit at least four teachers to enhance the quality of education and build a dispensary to provide healthcare services to the local community.

The protestors also demanded the provision of peon and science teachers to girls’ school, rehabilitation of roads, and the construction of cricket ground in Kannur.

The government officials agreed to demand and reaffirmed to contact the planning cell to initiate school construction and take immediate action on the project.

They have also agreed to recruit additional teachers for the local school and build a dispensary to address healthcare needs.
