CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): Meta-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp is going to introduce significant changes to its broadcast messaging policy aimed at reducing the growing issue of spam messages.

Individual users will face restrictions in the coming weeks on the number of broadcast messages they can send.

WhatsApp has become a growing asset for Meta in terms of revenue generation.

The policy is designed to check the volume of unwanted messages and improve user experience.

During the testing phase, Meta will limit the number of broadcast messages to a set amount per month for individual users.

Early reports suggest that WhatsApp is planning to allow a maximum of 30 broadcast messages per month or one per day.

The users who need to send more messages may use status updates or channels as alternatives to broadcast messages, according to Meta.

Meta is also mulling similar restrictions for business accounts to address growing concerns over spam.

Changes for WhatsApp business accounts

Currently, there is no limit on WhatsApp business accounts regarding the number of broadcast messages they can send.

However, the company has hinted at introducing paid versions with additional features in the coming months.

As per reports, business accounts will be able to send up to 250 broadcast messages for free during the testing phase, after which they will need to pay a fee for sending additional messages.

These changes are likely to be introduced in the coming months as part of a broader effort to refine the WhatsApp Business app.
