LEEPA (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Highway Department on Friday cleared the snow and landslides from Reshian-Leepa Road and restored the connectivity to Leepa Valley.
The Highway Department and the Pakistan Army successfully completed the snow clearance operation in three-days on the road, which connects Leepa to other parts of Kashmir. The road was cleared and made available at 3:30 am after an extensive fatiguing operation.
The Reshian-Leepa Road was severely affected after the recent snowfall as an avalanche in the area resulted in the complete closure of the thoroughfare.
The PWD Highways Department immediately started work after the snowfall to restore the road, but due to the continuous avalanches and intermittent snowfall, the operation remained stale.
In this difficult situation, the Pakistan Army, while fully supporting the PWD Department, brought its modern machinery to the road along with the deployment of soldiers, who worked day and night with civil department to restore the road for traffic. Three dozers and other machinery was used to remove snow from the road.
Along with removing snow, the soldiers of the Pakistan Army also helped the passengers trapped in the snow. Special arrangements were made for Sehr and Iftar for the passengers, while people trapped in difficult areas were safely evacuated.
The Reshian-Leepa Road was restored with the joint efforts of the Pakistan Army and the Highway Department, for which the local population and passengers thanked and paid tribute to both institutions.
