ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday said that the government has decided to complete the abolition of customs duty on raw materials used in the local production of medicines for cancer and other diseases.
As per the budget document, more than 100 categories of raw materials used in the local manufacturing of medicines for cancer and other diseases will be exempted from customs duty.
Presenting the Federal Budget 2026-27 in the National Assembly, the minister said that the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare and public welfare remains unwavering in the country.
He said cancer places a heavy financial and emotional burden on patients and their families, making it essential for the government to take practical steps to reduce treatment costs.
The finance minister said that the government’s initiative is intended to facilitate the availability of advanced and specialized treatments at lower costs, ensuring that citizens nationwide have better access to essential healthcare services.
Aurangzeb added that the duty exemption would support local pharmaceutical production while helping reduce treatment costs for patients suffering from serious illnesses.
