RIYADH (Kashmir English): The Saudi Heritage Commission has announced finding nearly 100 pieces of gold jewellery dating back to the Abbasid era in the Kingdom’s Qassim region.

The artefacts are a complete decorative set designed in floral patterns, with gemstones embedded inside gold frames.

Among the ancient ornaments is a large circular piece featuring colourful stones set in a unique pattern at its centre.

Multi-coloured prayer beads and large yet delicate gold spacers have been used to maintain gaps between the beads.

Jewellery was crafted using hammering techniques

The jewellery was crafted using hammering techniques and hand-shaped gold layering methods.

The gold plates contain decorative frames in which pressure engraving and gemstones were employed for ornamentation.

The collection was unearthed at a site in Dariyah during the commission’s fourth archaeological survey and excavation project.

According to Saudi Heritage Commission Chief Executive Officer Dr Jasser Suleiman Al-Harbash, the discovery in Dariyah reflects the richness of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.

In a statement, he said the find also underlines the Kingdom’s historic importance as a centre for trade routes and cultural exchange over many centuries.
