ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Emergency Operations Center of the NDMA has issued an alert about thunderstorms and hail in various parts of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NDMA, the current weather situation is in line with the weather assessment issued by the organization 3 to 4 months ago, while a warning regarding the possible weather conditions from April to June had already been issued.
According to the alert, strong winds, thunderstorms, and rain are likely in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while hail is also expected at some places.
In Punjab, rain has been predicted in Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Layyah, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Kasur, Mianwali, Sargodha, Jhang, and Multan.
In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, rain with thundershowers is expected in Gilgit, Skardu, Ghanche, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Shigar, Kharmang, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, Poonch, Rawalakot, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and hailstorm are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mingora, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Bajaur, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
The NDMA has warned that due to rising temperatures, the risk of glacial lakes bursting, flash floods, and landslides may increase.
The agency has directed citizens to avoid going near glacial lakes, staying on dangerous slopes, and unnecessary travel, while staying in safe places during storms and bad weather.
According to the NDMA, strong winds and possible hailstorms can damage weak structures, solar panels, and vehicles, and traveling in mountainous areas may also be difficult.
The agency has also issued instructions to the relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure preventive safety measures.
