SIRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The Jammu and Kashmir administration has classified Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom, which operates in the Imam Sahib section of Shopian district, as an illegal organization based on their alleged connections to a prohibited group and their multiple violations of the law.

The order that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg issued was based on evidence from both intelligence sources and the police dossier, which Shopian Senior Superintendent of Police submitted on March 24, 2026.

The order states that the institution, which functions as a major educational institution in south Kashmir, to which the outlawed group Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir and its organization Falah-e-Aam Trust maintain affiliations.

The institute faces accusations from authorities that it committed serious legal, administrative, and financial violations because of its land acquisition practices, its failure to obtain necessary registration from appropriate bodies, and its attempts to avoid legal oversight.

The order states that the total evidence and circumstances, together with intelligence information and on-site checks, provide enough evidence to show that the premises function as a base for illegal activities.

The administration determined that the institution proved its claim of innocence by showing its actual activities, which involved criminal activities on its premises.
