ZURICH (Kashmir English): The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has rejected Iran’s request to move the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches from the United States to another country.
Following this rejection has once again raised a question mark on the inclusion of the Iranian Football team.
According to a foreign news agency, FIFA took the position on Iran’s request that the tournament’s schedule, venues and arrangements have been predetermined and no changes are possible.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has also confirmed that the matches will be played in the United States as planned.
While FIFA rejected the request, keeping in mind the logistics, commercial agreements, ticketing and broadcast schedule.
It should be noted that Iran had requested to move its group matches from the United States to Mexico due to the tense situation between the United States and Israel and security concerns.
Iran had expressed concern that it was not safe to play in the United States in the current situation. While the American leadership has also expressed reservations over security issues.
It should be noted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played jointly in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. While Iran has to play its group matches in the United States.
