DADYAL (Kashmir English): Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) on Tuesday warned of a long march towards the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on June 9, and a wheel-jam strike if their demands are not met by May 31.
The action committee made this announcement in a statement issued after its core committee meeting held in Mirpur’s Dadyal Tehsil on the upcoming general elections in Azad Kashmir and other important public issues.
The statement said that if the Charter of Demand is not implemented by May 31, “a long march and sit-in will be held from Bhimber to the AJK Assembly in Muzaffarabad on June 9 to obtain constitutional powers” along with a wheel-jam strike across the region for an indefinite period.
The committee announced that, despite serious reservations, negotiations with the Monitoring and Implementation Committee will continue to review the implementation of demands agreed by the government on October 4, 2025.
Earlier this year, the AJK government claimed it had resolved or was moving towards resolution of more than 90 per cent of the issues outlined by the JAAC during their sit-in protest last year.
Moreover, the committee has urged the public to stock up on one month’s ration in view of a possible movement against the government.
“Along with this, JAAC will be activated at the ward level, and campaigns, seminars, and conferences will be organized for the right to property and the right to rule,” the statement said.

Moreover, the Awami Action Committee, in a statement, said that comprehensive reform proposals are being submitted to the concerned authorities for holding transparent, fair, and impartial elections, adding that it does not want to obstruct the democratic process of elections.
The committee expressed serious concern over the government’s violation of agreements with the Action Committee at different times and said that until the issue of 12 controversial and unconstitutional seats of refugees is resolved, holding elections will be unacceptable.
The statement demanded that the elimination of these 12 seats be ensured before the elections so that the establishment of an empowered people’s assembly can be possible, and the agreements reached should be fully implemented by ending unnecessary privileges enjoyed by the elite.
“An impartial Election Commission should be established by recognizing the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee as a regular stakeholder, and the committee’s suggestions regarding electoral reforms should be implemented,” the statement added.
The statement further condemned the case lodged by the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) against core committee member Shaukat Nawaz Mir.
The JAAC also strongly rejected the attempt by a Hurriyat leader [Abdul Hameed Lone] to defame the Action Committee and Shaukat Nawaz Mir based on “baseless allegations” and to call him an Indian agent.
