NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, a 39-year-old Wing Commander was found dead by suicide at his residence in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Wing Commander Vipul Yadav, 39, was found dead at his residence in Raipur’s Vidhayak Colony. His domestic help discovered him in his room; his children were sleeping nearby.

Yadav’s wife, a former IAF personnel now working in Bengaluru’s IT sector, had reportedly had disputes with him.

Personal issues might have led to the extreme step, officials said. No suicide note was found as investigations are underway. Yadav was involved in anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh.

Suicide cases within IAF

Based on reports, suicide cases within the Indian Air Force (IAF) and other armed forces have been a subject of concern.

In July 2022, data presented in the Rajya Sabha revealed that the IAF recorded 148 suicides over the previous five years.

Studies on suicides among Indian security personnel, including the army and air force, have highlighted several potential factors, including high-stress operational deployments, personal issues, and, in some contexts, issues with working conditions.

As of July 2022, the Indian Air Force reported 148 suicides, part of a larger trend affecting all branches of the Indian armed forces.
