ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a core member of the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), Mujtaba Farooqi, from Islamabad International Airport on Wednesday morning.

According to the sources, Farooqi was taken into custody when he reached the airport at around 6 am to leave for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. FIA officials stopped him from boarding the plane.

Various social and public circles have condemned and expressed concern over his arrest.

JAAC said that if any legal action is required against Mujtaba Farooqi, it should be clarified, and he should be released immediately.

They have demanded that Mujtaba Farooqi be immediately released, and the action taken against him should be explained.

JAAC member Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri said that if Mujtaba Farooqi is not released by 9 pm today, then they will soon decide on the next course of action.

The Awami Action Committee will hold an online meeting and announce further action, he said, adding that all core members must attend the online meeting at 9:30 pm.
