ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has rejected the news about the increase in price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), saying that no new notification has been issued in this regard.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the regulatory authority said that LPG prices are fixed from the first of every month; therefore, the claims circulating regarding the recent increase in prices are false and baseless.

The statement has said that the public should buy LPG only at the prices fixed by OGRA. “If any place charges more than the fixed price, the local administration should be contacted immediately,” the statement added.

OGRA added that the organization is committed to maintaining transparency in the LPG pricing and supply system.

Claim of increase in LPG prices

Earlier, several news outlets reported that the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) had surged by Rs 70 to Rs 100 per kilogram.

The Marketing Association spokesperson, Ali Haider, declared that the retail price of LPG has increased from Rs250 per kilogram to a range between Rs320 and Rs350 per kilogram.

The Marketing Association announced that supply shortages and price increases have existed since the beginning of the Iranian conflict. The association urged the government to arrange LPG imports from Russia or Oman to stabilize the market.

The development came days after the federal government declared a substantial increase in petroleum prices because of supply issues that have arisen during the current US-Israel-Iran war.

The government implemented a major petrol and diesel price hike of Rs55 per litre on Friday, which raised petrol prices to Rs321.17 per litre and diesel prices to Rs335.86 per litre.

The price surge, effective midnight Saturday, marks a staggering 17% jump for consumers nationwide
