MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Approximately 30 days have passed since the demise of former President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, yet the Assembly Secretariat Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has not issued a notification regarding the vacancy of the presidential post after him.

In this regard, the delay in the presidential election process has raised questions among political circles and the public. Legally, when an official passes away or a post becomes vacant, the concerned administration should immediately issue a notification so that the Election Commission can initiate process for holding presidential elections.

In this context, the spokesperson for the Election Commission stated that necessary steps are being taken regarding the presidential elections and all preparations will be completed according to the law.

The spokesperson emphasised that the election process will be completed in a legal and transparent manner, and all candidates will be provided equal opportunities.

However, due to the delay in the notification from the Assembly Secretariat, the date and commencement of the presidential election process are still unclear, which is causing unrest among political analysts and the public.

Some circles attribute this delay to administrative sluggishness or legal complexities. Formal proceedings for the election will begin soon after the notification is issued.

It is worth noting that Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry implemented several important reforms and measures during his presidency, and the post that became vacant after his demise is considered sensitive.

The public and political circles are now expecting the Assembly Secretariat to issue a notification soon so that the presidential election process could be completed without delay.
