COLOMBO (Kashmir English): Pakistan and New Zealand will clash in the Super Eights of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup today at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

This will be the 50th match between Pak vs NZ in T20 International cricket. In the 49 matches played so far, Pakistan have won 24 while New Zealand have won 23, with two matches drawn.

Rain Threat looms

The weather in Colombo could also have an impact on this crucial encounter. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain before and during the match.

The match is scheduled to start at 7 pm local time; however, rain is predicted in the early part.

The temperature is likely to be between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, while the humidity in the air may exceed 80 percent, which could pose an additional challenge for the players.

What will happen in case of cancellation of the match?

No reserve day has been allocated for this match, and if the match is canceled due to rain, both teams will be given one point each, which could deal a serious blow to their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

The match officials will have an additional 90 minutes to get a result, but if even 5 overs per innings cannot be played, the match will be declared canceled.

The two teams have faced each other 24 times since January 2022. During this period, New Zealand had a slight advantage, winning 13 matches while Pakistan won 9.

Pakistan’s immediate focus is to win against top-tier opponents in the Super 8s to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Pakistan’s performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 so far has been inconsistent, marked by a critical group-stage loss to India but a strong rebound to secure a Super Eights spot.

The team has relied heavily on a specialized spin-heavy attack and top-order contributions from players like Sahibzada Farhan.
