MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission members reviewed the implementation of the Computerised Electoral Rolls System (CERS) to modernise the electoral system ahead of the forthcoming general elections in the state.
Under the chairmanship of Election Commission member Syed Nazirul Hassan Gilani, the meeting discussed in detail the progress made in the implementation of CERS, the responsibilities of the Election Commission, and the progress of the project.
The participants were informed that the Tripartite Agreement was signed on 29 July 2025, while the Business Requirement Document (BRD) was finalized after consultation with NADRA and signed on 24 September 2025.
During the meeting, it was informed that the Special Communications Organization (SCO) was contacted regarding internet connectivity for field offices. The process of establishing network connectivity is underway, and close coordination is being maintained with the relevant institutions for this purpose.
The participants were informed that the addresses of all the sites nominated for the implementation of CERS have been shared with the concerned departments, while the electoral and geographical metadata have been verified by the field officers and are ready for formal sharing with NADRA.
It was reiterated that the computerized electoral rules system would be implemented in a phased, secure, and transparent manner with the cooperation of the AJK Election Commission, NADRA, Azad Jammu and Kashmir IT Board, and SCO.
Addressing the meeting, the Member Election Commission Syed Nazirul emphasized that the integrity and confidentiality of electoral data should be ensured at all costs, and all the concerned offices should provide full cooperation for the timely completion of the project.
He issued instructions to complete the network connectivity issues on a priority basis and to make institutional coordination more effective.
Gilani congratulated the Secretary AJK Election Commission, Raja Muhammad Shakeel Khan, Focal Person, and the entire team of the Election Commission for their continuous, selfless, and tireless work on the CERS project.
He expressed that the team has played a commendable role in making the project a success with full dedication, professionalism, and sincerity.
