ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A viral post attributing a statement to the defence minister, Khawaja Asif, is doctored as the minister has made no such comments.
A news story and a picture attributed to Khawaja Asif are going viral on social media, claiming that he has strongly criticized the Punjab government.
The picture shows a screenshot of the website of Pakistan’s leading English daily, Dawn, on which the impression was given that this news was published at Dawn, but there is no such article on the Dawn website.
Kashmir Digital checked the link to verify this claim, but did not find such content anywhere on the internet. Further investigation also looked at the date on the news, which was January 5 last year.
During the fact check, it came to light that this news story with such a long headline and full name has never been published in Dawn. Thus, it became clear that the screenshot going viral on social media is fake, and the claim attributed to Khawaja Asif is not true.
