JHELUM (Kashmir English): Religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has rejected the claims that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is being kept in a ‘dark cell’ in Adiala Jail.
Talking with journalist Irshad Bhatti, he claimed that Imran Khan is housed in a spacious jail accommodation consisting of nine separate rooms, whereas ordinary prisoners are usually confined to a single room shared by multiple inmates.
Mirza further claimed that he also has access to a private veranda, where he can walk and sit in the open air, a facility not available to other prisoners who remain confined to their cells.
Regarding food arrangements, he denied allegations of mistreatment, stating that meals of choice, including chicken dishes cooked in desi ghee, are being provided regularly. They dismiss claims of “slow poisoning” as misleading and baseless.
He further stated that a dedicated staff member is assigned for assistance, while television and daily newspapers are also available. Sources claim that even the placement of nearby inmates was adjusted to ensure his comfort, including relocating another prisoner to avoid disturbance.
Engineer Mirza added that these facilities contradict the narrative being circulated internationally by certain political figures and supporters, who allege harsh detention conditions.
They maintain that the portrayal of torture or solitary confinement is inaccurate, adding that the facilities provided go well beyond standard prison arrangements and are being funded through public resources.
