ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Authorities in Islamabad will start issuing e-tags (electronic tags) to vehicles on November 18 in a bid to secure the federal capital and log movement of each and every vehicle entering the city.
According to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the issuance of e-tags for vehicles will be ensured at designated points in the city.
An e-tag sticker will be mandatory for every vehicle plying on Islamabad’s roads whether registered in Islamabad or the provinces. The citizens will be informed in advance about the designated points.
e-tags mandatory for vehicles entering Islamabad
Islamabad has made e-tags mandatory for all vehicles entering the capital, with enforcement beginning after a two-week grace period from the initial announcement on November 12, 2025. Vehicles without the e-tag will be denied entry.
All vehicles, including those of the residents and daily commuters, must have a valid e-tag to enter Islamabad.
The measure is part of a broader security enhancement and smart city initiative aimed at streamlining traffic flow, improving surveillance, and reducing manual checks at entry points. This follows a recent security incident in the capital.
After the deadline – two weeks from November 12 – law enforcement will strictly enforce the rule, and non-compliant vehicles will not be allowed entry.
Authorities have indicated that facilitation centres and online registration options are being set up to make the process accessible.
The e-tag is an RFID- (Radio-Frequency Identification) based system intended for city access control and security, which appears to be distinct from the M-tag used for motorway tolls.
