ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A district and session court in Islamabad has indicted the former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, for purportedly misusing a diplomatic passport.

During the hearing, presided over by the Judicial Magistrate Ahmad Shehzad Gondal, the court formally placed the charges on the former Prime Minister of AJK; however, he has denied all the charges of misusing the diplomatic passport.

For further investigation, the court has adjourned the hearing of the case till October 6, summoning the prosecution witnesses for the next hearing.

As per the case reports, Ilyas is charged with travelling to Saudi Arabia on his diplomatic passport upon leaving office.

He was also arrested earlier on May 2o on a different case regarding a family property dispute, where he was charged with trying to grab family property, being party to a shootout, and trying to assume control of a mall’s central offices and important documents.

The former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) this year. Ilyas had praised the PPP and its leadership for constantly raising their voice for the Kashmir cause.
