ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday formed a committee to facilitate negotiations between the Azad Kashmir government and the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

The government has extended an invitation to the Jammu Kashmir JAAC for formal talks scheduled to begin on September 24 in Muzaffarabad.

The Government of Pakistan intends to assist in resolving the impending issues amicably and peacefully, a notification issued from the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The committee consists of the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan, Ameer Muqam, and the Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

“The two-member committee shall visit Muzaffarabad tomorrow and interact with negotiation committees from both sides,” the notification added.

“The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is requested to provide necessary support for the purpose,” it added.

Earlier today, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Political Committee for Azad Kashmir urged the AJK government to negotiate with the Awami Action Committee ahead of the September 29 strike call.

The PML-N AJK held a crucial meeting of its political committee in Islamabad to discuss the current political and administrative situation in Azad Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by top party leaders, including Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Ameer Muqam.

The committee members stressed the need to implement matters agreed upon between the JAAC and the AJK government, while demands that are feasible and can be implemented immediately should be resolved through negotiations.
