Food Authority Muzaffarabad seizes truckload of substandard ghee

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Food Authority Muzaffarabad seized a truckload of ghee and oil that was being transported without a mandatory laboratory report.

According to details, Assistant Food Safety Officer Qazi Shafiq-ur-Rehman, along with his team, intercepted a vehicle on Bararkot Road and seized a vehicle load of ghee and oil.

During the checking, the driver was asked for a Food Authority permit and licence, which he was not possessing.

Food Authority Act 2017

Under the Food Authority Act 2017, selling food items without a laboratory report is an offence in Azad Kashmir.

Only food business operators who have a Food Authority permit and licence can sell food items.

District Food Controller/Food Safety Officer Muzaffarabad and Jhelum Valley, Abrar Ahmed Mir, said that there would be no compromise on public health and food quality.

Food items without a laboratory report, adulterated, and substandard are extremely harmful to human health, therefore, indiscriminate action will continue against elements involved in such business and supply.

He further said that only those food business operators who have a regular permit and licence from the Food Authority are authorized to prepare and sell food items, otherwise, strict action will be taken under the Food Authority Act.
