LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Sutlej River is experiencing extremely high levels of flooding at Gandha Singh wala, due to which announcements have been made to evacuate villages adjacent to Talwar Post.
The rivers overflowing in different areas in Punjab have increased the problems of the people of low-lying areas.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, Tarbela Dam is 100percent filled and Mangla Dam is 81% filled.
There is a high level of flooding at Baloki in the Ravi River and Ganda Singhwala in the Sutlej River.
There is a high level of flooding at Chiniot Bridge, Ravi Siphon, and Shahdara.
The Flood Forecasting Division says that there is a moderate level of flooding at Guddu, Khanki, Qadirabad, and Jasr, while there is a low level of flooding at Sukkur, Kotri, Marala, and Head Islam.
In the flood-affected areas of Chiniot, rain has been continuing for more than 2 hours, while in Sheikhupura and its surrounding areas, water has accumulated in low-lying areas due to heavy rain.
In Jhelum city and its surrounding areas, rivers and canals have overflowed due to rain, and low-lying areas have been submerged.
Water from the rivers and canals has entered the settlements. Rescue teams are facing difficulties in rescue operations due to continuous rain.
DG PDMA Punjab Irfan Ali Kathia, while holding a press conference in Lahore, said that the biggest rescue operation in the history of Punjab was carried out.
More than 800 boats and thousands of rescue workers participated in the operation. The Pakistan Army also provided exemplary cooperation in rescuing people in Punjab.
He said that the flow of water in the three rivers of Punjab is very high, and there is a need to save the population, so cracks will be made.
Heavy rain in Bagh, Azad Kashmir, caused flooding in Nallah Mahal, and the settlement on the banks of the drain was evacuated.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said that heavy rain is likely in some places in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir today.
Apart from this, rain is also expected in some places in Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the evening or at night.
DG PDMA Punjab Irfan Ali Kathia said that due to the break of the dam in India, the water moved towards Kasur.
The highest water in history has come to Kasur in the Sutlej River since 1955. The challenge is to save Kasur city from the flood.
