ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent development, Pakistan Muslim League Noon (PLM-N) Azad Kashmir President Shah Ghulam Qadir met with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Chaudhry Muhammad Riaz in Islamabad, where they discussed the overall political situation in Azad Kashmir in detail.
In the meeting, both leaders agreed that appointments to other key and constitutional positions in Azad Kashmir, including the Chief Election Commissioner, will never be accepted if they are made without consulting the two major parliamentary parties. In this regard, both parties will decide on a joint response plan.
In response to a question on this occasion, both leaders clarified that in the upcoming general elections of Azad Kashmir, the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muslim League (N) Azad Kashmir will not field joint candidates in any constituency, but rather both parties will field their own candidates in each constituency.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced to jointly contest the upcoming by-elections.
This was announced by PML-N leader and Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi and PPP leader Raja Pervez Ashraf in a joint press conference.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, the anti-terrorism courts of Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Lahore sentenced PTI MPs and workers on charges of attacking and arson on government property after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.
After this, the Election Commission disqualified these members, and by-elections on these vacant seats will be held on October 5.
