ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have announced to jointly contest the upcoming by-elections.

This was announced by PML-N leader and Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi and PPP leader Raja Pervez Ashraf in a joint press conference.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, the anti-terrorism courts of Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Lahore sentenced PTI MPs and workers on charges of attacking and arson on government property after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.

After this, the Election Commission disqualified these members, and by-elections on these vacant seats will be held on October 5.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that today’s meeting was held on the instructions of the leaders of both parties, and it has been decided between the two parties that they will fight the by-elections together.

He stated that the two parties had agreed that in constituencies where one party’s candidate finished second, the other party would provide its support.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that a formula has been agreed upon between the two coalition parties.

He said that in the constituency in which the PPP candidate came in second place in the general elections, the Muslim League will support the PPP, and in the constituency in which the PML-N candidate came in second place, the PPP will support the PML-N.

Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi said that the two parties are allies of each other in the Senate, national and provincial assemblies, and both parties will fight the by-elections together.
