ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent development, Field Marshal Asim Munir held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, among other commitments in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the two sides reiterated their commitment to augment the all-weather strategic partnership and enhance coordination at the regional and international levels, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a release.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s strong support for the sovereignty and development of Pakistan. The COAS thanked China for its unwavering support. Whereas, Regional security, counter-terrorism, and issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
The meeting was concluded by a mutual commitment to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Earlier, Pakistan and China reiterated their commitment to turbo-charging the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) during the 6th Strategic Dialogue between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Islamabad and Beijing are committed to making CPEC a “growth, green, livelihood, and open corridor,” meaning huge new investments in industry, agriculture, and mining that will turbo-charge the economy of Pakistan.
Gwadar Port expansion, Karakoram Highway realignment, and the ML-1 railway project plans are also in a fast-track mode.
Dar described the alliance as “complete unanimity” on regional and international issues, while Wang Yi appreciated Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and expressed China’s unflinching support for its sovereignty.
The negotiations also paved the way for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit next week to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, with both nations planning to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations next year.
China even committed emergency humanitarian assistance to Pakistan after successive heavy rains hit the country, highlighting the intensity of the strategic partnership.
