PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): Pakistan has been facing its most devastating time of the year as nearly half of the country faces flash floods and cloud bursts.

Almost 657 people have died and 929 have been injured in various accidents and rain-related incidents across the country so far during the current monsoon season, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

According to the report, the highest destruction was recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 390 deaths were reported. 164 were reported in Punjab, 28 in Sindh, 20 in Balochistan, 32 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 8 in the federal capital, Islamabad. Whereas, 15 people have died in Azad Jammu and Kashmir so far, including 5 children, 5 women, and 5 men.

According to official data, 171 children and 94 women are also among the dead. Children were the most affected group in Punjab, where 70 children lost their lives.

The NDMA has warned that further rains may lead to flood situations in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan. According to the agency, the weather system over Pakistan may cause heavy rains on Monday.

Urban flooding has been forecast in the districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin of Punjab.

Thunderstorms are likely in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, and Swabi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while heavy rains are also predicted in the southern districts of DI Khan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Kohat.

There is a risk of landslides and floods due to heavy rains in various districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber.

Landslides and floods are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan as a result of rains in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, and Shigar.
